The Game of Life Adventures Edition offers a fun twist to the classic Game of Life. You create your own life story and try to win more points.
How do you play the game by Hasbro?
Here are the instructions.
1. Setup
Lay the board on the table. Shuffle the three piles of cards and lay them on the table.
Set the Story card deck first, place the Career deck on the right and the College Career deck on its right.
1.1. Choose How Long You Want to Play
Decide the retirement age for all players. Keep the retirement token at the age that everyone decides.
Place the age pawn on the age track start space.
Below are recommended time frames for different numbers of players:
- 2 players – 40
- 3 players – 50
- 4 players – 60
- 5 players – 70
- 6 players – 80
1.2. Hand Over the Essentials
Provide each player with the following:
- A reminder card
- $10,000 in money
- A people peg and a car
- A passport
- A house stand
- Spin to Win token
Match the colors for all of the above for each player.
Place a people peg in your car and keep it on the start space. Keep your car facing the direction in which you want to move.
1.3. Choose a Banker
Select one player to act as the banker. Provide them with the following:
- Money
- Bank loans
- Golden Spin to Win token
- Passport stamps
- Boats and planes
- Promotion tokens
- People and pet pegs
- House tokens
The banker manages and hands out the above during the game. They also pay and deposit money and wealth cards in the bank.
1.4. Decide Your Action
You may decide to go to college. However, you don’t get your career until you land on the Exams space.
A player draws a career card immediately if they start a career.
1.5. Who Plays First?
Every player spins the spinner once. The player with the highest spin makes the first move.
1.6. Start a Career
You get your career if you choose to go down the career path. Follow the steps below:
- Pick up 3 facedown career cards.
- Take a look at all three cards and pick your desired one.
- Place the remaining cards at the bottom of the pile.
- Place your career card in front of you.
- You get your salary each time you pass or land on a payday.
1.7. Start University
Players who choose the career path get their career when they stop on the Exam space. A spin decides whether you pass your exams.
Follow the same steps above, but pick from the College Career deck this time.
2. How to Play
The Game of Life takes you on an adventure of a lifetime around the world. The player who retires with the most money wins the game.
2.1. On Each Turn
- Spin the spinner.
- Move the number of spaces indicated by the spin.
- Follow the instructions of the space you land on.
- The player to the left plays the next turn.
You will find green spaces on the board. More than one player can land on these spaces.
2.2. Special Spins
The Game of Life Adventures edition has two special spins – 1 and 10.
2.2.1. When You Spin 1
Put the board on a spin by following the steps below:
- Press down the spinner and turn it clockwise. The wheels below the board will turn and change the spaces.
- Keep moving the wheels until the volcano space on the beach island becomes red.
- Collect the amount that appears in the volcano eruption from the banker.
- Next, move your car 1 space.
2.2.2. When you Spin 10
Perform the following actions:
- Move your age pawn one space on the age track.
- The game is over if you have reached the retirement token.
- Next, move your car 10 spaces.
2.3. How the Game Ends
The game ends as soon as the age pawn reaches the retirement token. Everyone adds their scores to determine the highest scorer.
The highest scorer gets the victory.
You can continue the game further if you wish. Move the retirement token a few decades forward and continue till the age pawn reaches it.
3. Where Did You Land?
The spaces you land on dictate what you must do.
3.1. Green Spaces
Comply with what the space says when you pass or land on it.
- Payday – Collect your salary based on your career card and promotion level.
- Payday and promotion – Collect a promotion token from the bank and receive a new salary.
- Pay college fees – Get a $50,000 bank loan. Pay directly to the bank to support your degree.
3.2. Stop Spaces
Stop on these spaces even if you have any moves left.
- Set sail – Clip a boat at the bottom of your car. Move it to any port space and collect a passport stamp. You can now travel by boat from any port.
- Exams. Spin – Spin the spinner. You pass if you spin 4 or more and can choose a college career. You fail if you spin 3 or lower. Try again on the next turn or pay $50,000 to the bank to pass your exam.
- Get married – Add another person to your car and collect the amount displayed. Celebrate an anniversary if you are already married.
3.3. Travel Spaces
You can land at a port or airport.
3.3.1. Port
You can move to any port if you land on a port space with a pink boat icon. You also pick up a passport stamp and finish your turn.
Ignoring a port space on your turn is possible if you have moves remaining.
3.3.2. Airport
Airport spaces offer the same experience as ports. You should follow the same rules as above.
3.4. Special Spaces
Special spaces give you a new experience.
- Have a Baby
- Get a Pet
- Buy a House
- Spin to Win
Blank – A player reads a story from one card to decide if you win money.
You follow the instructions written on these spaces.
